We have the use of a timeshare and was wondering about cool things to do that aren't super expensive. I would love to see an active volcano but do we need to fly to one of the other islands? In January my husband and I are going Oahu?
The active volcano is on the Big Island, so that would be leaving Oahu. On Oahu you will want to see Waikiki beach, go snorkeling, hike Diamond head, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Dole Plantation and attend a luau. There are some things that cost a bit more, like a submarine ride or catching a show. It's wonderful there and beautiful things to see.In January my husband and I are going Oahu?
eating: go to ono's (726 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816) and also get a malasada at leonards (933 Kapahulu Ave, Hon, HI 96816)
things to do: hanama bay, diamond head, north shore (get matsumoto shave ice!), polynesian cultural center, beaches (kailua is pretty but they're all pretty), if you play golf turtle bay, pearl harbor, walk around waikiki

I love this website! They will have answers for you!
The only active volcano we have here in Hawaii is located on the Big Island (named Hawaii) and you would have to go by plane to go there. Once you get to the island, you'd have to rent a car and drive your way up to Volcanoes National Park. Whether or not you can actually see the active flow depends on weather conditions, safety hazards, and the flow's current location. Check with the National Park service for details.
As for other cool things to do, there are many things to do on Oahu that aren't too expensive (such as Sea Life Park, Polynesian Cultural Center, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, etc). Pick up a tourist type magazine when you arrive at the airport and you'll find lots of cool things to do (often at a discount).
Good luck and happy travels!
