My cats are getting way too fat. How can I convince my darling husband that feeding them 3 cans of food a day is not a healthy solution? How to get husband to stop feeding cat?
Hide the cat food away from himHow to get husband to stop feeding cat?
Hi there...consider appealing to the factual side by discussing how cats require a restricted caloric intake in order to maintain long-term good health like humans. Obesity can lead to expensive medical treatments as it causes multiple health concerns for example such as diabetes mellitus, lower urinary tract infection, hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease), renal disease, heart disease, ...all which must be managed medically.
How about printing out this information sheet written by Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine on ';Feeding Your Cat';:
http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/resources鈥?/a>
...or other related materials on suggested healthy feeding portions:

Perhaps if he likes giving the cat a snack purchase some Bonito/fish flakes. This is a healthy and low calorie snack too: http://www.allpetsconsidered.com/xq/aspx鈥?/a>
Withold sex. Re-train him.
I would bombard him with the facts about obesity. Animals can suffer it's ill affects also. I would find out the calories needed by a cat a day, %26amp; juxtapose them against how many he is giving them. Maybe he doesn't understand how fattening that much food is.
The problem you need to deal with is that the cats are probably trained to beg whenever they see him near their food or the kitchen... ect. %26amp; he probably doesn't see the harm in a little snack for them. %26amp; he probably can't say no to them either. On that account I would tell him to only feed them in a certain place. I would measure out portions of low fat food or ban him from the food %26amp; only let him give them lowfat treats one by one or catnip.
Another way to stop him is to hit him where it hurts... the wallet. Canned food rots the teeth. They don't brush their teeth %26amp; if you don't do it for them... plague %26amp; tooth decay soon follow. Get an estimate for teeth cleaning %26amp; get the dentist to list the most common reasons for teeth cleaning (soft food) on the estimate %26amp; hand it to your husband. In my area cleaning my cat's teeth runs $180... that should sufficiently get your hubbies attention %26amp;/or at the very least get your hubby down to a can a day if not lowfat dry food.
Good luck
you have a few options, you can make sure you only have one can of food in the house, you could also speak to the husband and find out if he thinks they will starve, if this is the problem leave dry food down always and then only feed them caned once daily... good luck p.s. most cats will catch there own food if they are really hungry and if you over feed then they wont mouse or play well, they wont have to.
';Do u want fat cats? I thought ur mom was more than enough!';
Just... say you would like to be taking care of feeding the cats and he should leave it all to you.
Don't, plase don't switch them to dry food :((
Anyway, you may locate Molly's story (under Obesity) at www.catnutrition.org and have him read it. That was a very fat cat... and definitely unhappy.
talk to your husband bout this. and for the cat, he needs excercise. consult your vet bout what has to be done
stop buying cat food :)
Make sure that the number of cans of cat food is little at home. Another thing you could do is feed your hubby a lot make him fat so tht he realises tht eating too much makes you fat
Hide the dish...feed them yourself when they are done hide the dish again. Good luck.
tell him all the dagers there are in having an overweight cat.

Stop providing the food for one thing! But also cats LOVE canned food, so ONLY buy dry food or bagged moist food for a while.
And really here, unless the cats are getting obese there is no need to deny them the canned food.
Spayed and neutered cats will also gain weight more so. So check with your vet on this. Otherwise to pamper your cat with food is a very loving thing.
A cats weight is only an issue if it causes discomfort to the animal.
WOAH THAT ALOT OF FOOD! u should really tell him that, that amount is EXTREMLY unneccessory..i feed ma cats about a bowl a day. and they are fine they are on a normal weight. the bag should tell u how much is good for ur cats because and over weight cat is a bad one. heart problems will occur and she will become lazy, she will bathe less since she cant reach in spots and she will eventually give up. please tell ur hubby that half a bowl in the morning and half a bowl at night is good enuff. maybe some canned food in between is good, but three cans is way too much. and of course make shure they have plenty of water. to lose those weight they have had play wit them alot with strings, mice toys, etc. there are alot of toys to get them active...good luck with u and ur hubby and ur cats!
Have you tried the good ol fashioned chit chat about it?
Since you can most men's attention with an attack to their wallet, tell him about the diseases that cats get when overfed or when they are older and have to go to the vet.Or when they get so they can't get around or jump because of the wieght. He may get the hint then!Vets cost quite a bit anywhere! Also tell him that if he really cares about them he will do what is best for them. Just like a kid, spoiling isn't good in the long run!!!
