When your information is entered into DEERS you are automatically enrolled into Tricare Standard. With Standard you go to an approved Tricare civilian provider, there is a yearly deductible and co-pay for each visit. Your insurance number will be your husband's social security number (memorize it, especially the last 4) and nothing more than that. You will need to make sure that the doctor you are seeing is approved by Tricare, not that they approve Tricare.
when you receive a package in the mail around week 4, it should have a Form DD1172 and this authorizes you to go to the closest Military base or Reserve center and get your ID card. You can then change to Tricare Prime/Prime Remote where there is no co-pay or deductible.Military benefits how do I take kids to dr. when husband is in basic training?
Once he enrolls you guys in DEERS you'll be covered under Tricare Standard until you enroll in Prime.
If using Standard, you'll probably be able to go to your same doctor but you'll still have co-pays and deductibles that you're responsible for.
Prime is better, but you might not be able to go to your current doctors.
You'll get the DD1172 in the mail a few weeks into training, take it to the nearest military installation to get the id card (that includes MEPS offices, reserve stations, etc...so don't worry, you don't have to drive to the nearest large base)
